The time is long overdue for citizens of each of the states, which were united 200 years age, to redeclare themselves independent from tyranny. The tyranny we suffer far exceeds that which the Colonies endured from the King of England in 1776. Join me in defining the source of today’s tyranny and declaring independence from the two-headed vulture known as the two-party system which has empowered itself with ever-increasing control over our lives.
My name is Robert C. Bailey. I live in Maryland and belong to the Maryland Independent Party, which is nationally affiliated with America’s Independent Party. I am not a constitutional scholar; but I am a thinker. I’ve read the US Constitution and have concluded the members of the Republican and Democrat Parties have long ignored its content and have made modifications over the years designed to undermine its original intent in order to consolidate power for themselves.
Let us debate the enumeration of the many violations to our nation’s founding documents. I invite you to comment on America’s Independence Declaration, which declares a separation from the two-party system.

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, when queried as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation a lady asked Dr. Benjamin Franklin, “Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy?” “A republic,” replied the Doctor, “if you can keep it.“
America’s Independence Declaration
4 July 2009
We the People of the America’s Independent Party, in an effort to repair what was a more perfect union, and to protect and defend our nation against all enemies both foreign and domestic, do hereby declare ourselves independent and free from the tyranny of the two party system which no longer is designed to represent the people, but exist solely for its own existence and power. This dissolved association is designed to empower individuals as our government was originally designed, and to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them.
Just as the people of the individual American States united originally, in order to shed themselves from a form of government that had become unable to represent the governed and unable to provide what are the self-evident truth of unalienable rights, including Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, we also separate ourselves from a political process that no longer represents the people.
As we shed the shackles of the two party system, so too do we shed from our lives the mindless dribble that comes from the entertainment industry and the entertainers who profess to report news and know better than ourselves what is best for us and what information we should have. We intend to replace this useless distraction with reports from the nation’s people, who truly know what is in their own best interest, rather than from those who profess to have the nation’s best interest in mind while reveling in greed and great wealth.
To be clear, our independence is only with regards to the corrupt politics that depends on greed for its success. For it is also self evident that in order for people to be the power behind a representative form of government, people across the nation must take the time to come together within their local communities to share their ideas with one another and, based on a well informed judgement, select the most qualified people to be their representatives in government. For a representative government to work it requires great effort by each person to become knowledgeable and informed on the issues and to identify among their numbers those who are worthy of public office.
This path we take is being done after first careful and thoughtful study of our nation’s history, its founding documents, as well as, those that wrote them, and then, only after careful deliberation. For our republic to succeed, as it was first conceived, we the citizens of this great nation must take personal responsibility in our daily lives so that our government does not find an excuse to interfere. We as citizens must also remain ever vigilant over the activities being taken by our government, else it will continue to consolidate power. We citizens must not compromise in order to win partial victories, as this only serves to allow the government to erode the power intended for this nation’s citizens. These are not easy tasks, but they are the price of freedom and liberty.
By using the power of the people, we who are not members of a party but, a free people, freely associating as a group known as America’s Independent Party intend to override the influence money has had in defining who is the govern and who is the governed. By becoming the media we remove agenda driven reporting and replace it with the truth. By setting ourselves independent from the current corrupt political system, we the people, who choose to freely associate with one another for the purposes that are our own, we openly embrace anyone, regardless of party affiliation, if they find themselves in agreement with our resolve.
The history of our two-party political system, and its ever increasing consolidation of power, is a history of repeated injuries to the sovereignty of its people.
It has empowered the greedy, and squashed the voice of the individual.
It has undermined the sanctity of marriage, and indeed, the sanctity of life itself, contrary to the very reasoning for declaring independence from tyranny and forming a more perfect union.
It has allowed incalculable number of laws designed to disarm the nation’s citizens despite the prohibition from any laws being enacted that infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms, as stated in the Second Amendment – which if allowed to continue will not only disallow the ability to defend oneself, undermines the ability to defend the nation.
It has allowed the federal government to take away the freedom to express religious beliefs and replace it with a government organized belief system that is atheistic and anti-Christian, contrary to the First Amendment to the Constitution – an act, if left unchecked, will ultimately undermine the ability to sustain the Republic because it will need to be replaced by a police state.
It has given ever-increasing unconstitutional central powers to the federal government, which as originally envisioned, were limited and clearly enumerated in the Constitution, with emphasis via the Tenth Amendment.
It has allowed each of the three branches of the federal government to act well outside their power and authority, as defined in Articles One, Two and Three of the Constitution, whereby: the Judiciary is creating laws by pretending to interpret existing ones, the Executive is creating laws by issuing executive orders, and the Legislature is creating laws on matters that are reserved exclusively for the States.
It has allowed a President to take this nation to war in Kosovo without authorization from Congress, this being a violation of article One, Section Eight of the Constitution, and in violation of the The War Powers Act which limits both the number of troops the President can deploy to war and the length of time he can have troops deployed without Congressional authorization. Even though the War Powers act is itself unconstitutional, as it transfers the power to go to war from the Legislative branch to the Executive branch, its violation should have been addressed by more than a hand full of Congressmen, and dismissed by the Judiciary branch as a Legislative branch issue.
It has allowed the full weight of the government to obtain and use private, personal government-controlled information, and with full consent and complicity of the so called news media, to distort the truth and attack the character and honor of a citizen who did nothing except ask a question of someone who was campaigning for the position of President of these united states during our nation’s scheduled election for the year of our lord 2008, in clear violation of the First and Fourth Amendment of the Constitution.
It has allowed those who are ineligible to be able to run for the position of President of these united states, as defined by Article Two, Section One, of our Constitution.
It has allowed spending by the federal government to be conducted outside its authority with the intent of maintaining the existing two-party system.
It has allowed the central government to squander the nation’s wealth and place the nation indebted to other nations around the world, and thus endangering the nation’s liberty and freedom.
It has created a taxation approach that even the government’s own agency responsible for collecting taxes is unable to understand or explain; a system that is unquestionably overly burdensome on the nation’s citizens.
It has allowed permanent international economic and trade agreements and associations which are unaccountable to the people, represented a material setback to our nation and its manufacturing base, and contrary to the Constitution.
It has allowed Supreme Court Justices to remain in office who have made clear through their statements and rulings that they are not restricted to interpreting the laws enacted by this country’s legislatures, but free to apply international laws upon the people, which would give powers to international bodies that are not representing the citizens of this nation. This is a violation of Article Four, Section Four which provides a “guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government”, and the principle that the judiciary is responsible for interpreting law not enacting law.
It has allowed our judicial system to be manipulated by forces outside our nation, it has falsely imprisoned the people who risk their lives protecting our nation as members of law enforcement and border security, in violation of the Eight and Eleventh Amendment to the Constitution.
It has failed to secure this nation against invasion, allowed not only criminals and criminal activities to take control of our borders and large segments of our society, it has also provided access into our country by our enemy who has made it clear they are at war with us and intend to destroy our nation. All of which ignores the very reason for the federal government’s existence as stated in the Preamble to the Constitution and the guarantee to protect against invasion and domestic violence in Article Four, Section Four.
It has changed the Constitution so that the two-party system can reign supreme over the people by changing the way members of the Senate are selected. Although it gives the appearance of being more democratic with the selection being made as it were by popular vote by the people, in its application, Amendment Seventeen unyokes Senators from the States they were to represent; it undermines the design of the two houses of Congress; and it undermines the balance of power between the States and the Central government. With the State Legislature no longer selecting their States Senators, Senators are no longer beholden to the States they are suppose to represent. Instead, they are beholden to the power brokers with sufficient money to influence opinion and elections via popular voting by people who are uninformed on the issues.
We therefore, with quill in hand and a sword securely sheathed at our side, as a body of people belonging to this great nation, formed as it is from a uniting of the many states of the union, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world, do solemnly publish and declare, that we as a free people are absolved from all allegiance to the two-party system and that all political connection between us and the existing political party system, is and ought to be totally dissolved. – And for support of this Declaration to create a new political power in this nation, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.
